Our look is different.....following the New Theme of Beginners Marketing Class

Spending a lot of my younger days Sailing the Pacific Coast, I felt the resources and dedication needed to Sail Blue Water and beginning a Business are VERY Close, so the Theme will follow that needed to embark on an Exciting Voyage to Success

Most of you know I host a couple of Live Interactive Podcasts. The Flagship is the Focus Society of Overachievers, going stong since October 2006, twice a week. My good friend Pat Ritrosky, and I also do a Talk Show focusing on Direct Mail Marketing Success.

The involvement in these programs has shown me the Mis-direction and Out-right falsehoods foisted on an eager Market of Budding Entreprenuers, both On-line and Off-line.

Because of these findings I am compelled to introduce a Membership site in October 2007 that will use State of the Art Interactive Multi-media to offer the A Clear Chart to the Treasures of an Abundant Lifestyle, we all seem to Seek.

The content will focus on the Changes needed in moving from an Employee Mentality to an Entreprenuerial mind-set.

The contributors will be those excited Marketers who have seen the results of the necessary Changes and are willing to share with others how these transitions came to pass......

I just saw this wonderful Post by Brian Kim.
It is very well stated......as Joe Schroeder says so well in his CD's
"Don't worry How to get it going, Just Get it Going"

If you are Making "Mistakes", You are on the Right Path

Why the quotes around mistakes?  Because you know just as well as I do that theyre not really mistakes.  They just look like them at first glance.  They are in fact signals that guide you to the hidden opportunities that lie within.  If you're making these mistakes, you are on the right path.  You are moving toward the inevitable achievement of your dreams.

One of the biggest traps that people fall into when they want to pursue their dreams is that they go on an information binge.  They seek to devour as much information as possible to avoid making mistakes in the future.  Now don not get me wrong, it's certainly prudent to do some research beforehand, but the trap that comes with going on an information binge is, besides the fact that you don not take action, is that you try to learn all you can to avoid every single mistake in the future and by doing that, you deprive yourself of the many opportunities that can actually help you to achieve your dream.

I know it sounds like an oxymoron.  How can avoiding mistakes actually harm you?

It is because you do not see where you NEED to make progress on.  Mistakes give us feedback on where we need to shift our focus on and we don't get that if we constantly go on an information binge.

Mistakes give feedback on WHAT needs to be fixed.

Information will NEVER remove all the mistakes

The only way you are going to get that feedback is if you make mistakes and mistakes can only be made when action is taken.

Those mistakes will provide you the information you NEED to get what you want.  In other words, it will point out where you are deficient in and give you the opportunity to strengthen it.  If you look at it that way, you are actually saving time because you now know what needs to be worked on and what does not.  The thing is you can not get that feedback if you sit there and read all day.  The experiences we gather from actually doing an activity rather than reading about it are different as night and day.

The only thing I can do is pound the fact that you WILL make these mistakes and they are FOR you, not against you.  As ludicrous as it sounds, it is right.  You willl find once you take action, all of that knowledge you read may not apply.  Some of what you read might be more important so you start to refine the information, toss what you don not need and focus on what i is working.  Making mistakes are those adjustments you make while you sail toward your destination.

You will also find that each mistake you make builds off one another.  Each mistake you say?  Yes.  Each mistake.  Let me clear up any confusion that might be occurring in the minds of readers right now.  You WILL definitely make mistakes during your journey.  It will happen. Make no doubt about it.  But they are for YOUR benefit.  Most of us can not really see how each mistake builds off one another, but it does.  Again, it's not a tit for tat or 1 for 1 exchange. You slowly get an exponential amount of growth from each mistake you make and learn from.

We can always learn something from each mistake that propels us to the next level.  Each mistake builds off one another. That it is a very important concept to understand.  In that way, you actually become grateful for it.  Each mistake we make turns into an opportunity to become better and as we progress, we make better and better mistakes that create better and better opportunities.  It is a great cycle and you develop something that a lot of people do not have; an appreciation for these mistakes.

Each mistake also has the potential to take us on a tangent that we never would have taken had we not made that mistake, and more often that not, it is those exact tangents that take us closer to the achievement of our dreams.  None of us have the foresight to project and see how each these tangents take us closer to the achievement of our dreams.  We can only see how those tangents have helped us when we look back.  We can try to guess, but it is very hard to do it in that moment.

All we can do is look at the present moment and learn from it to move forward and slowly build off our foundation of Mistakes.  Look at any interview of a successful person and you will see them grin when asked the question of if they made any mistakes. Often you will find they'll slap their forehead and go on a spiel of how many stupid things they did, but that each one helped them immensely and built off one another to get them to where they are today.

When we experience these mistakes, we really learn.  They tend to stay with us longer.  How many of us have heard advice all the time on not to engage in certain activities but how many people go ahead and do it anyways and then truly experience the pain of making that mistake?  There is something about the experience of making a mistake that gets seared in our brain so that we really learn from it.

Making mistakes also is a very humbling experience.  It makes us realize we do not know all there is to know so we reach out for help.  In that sense, we really learn as well because we are forced to go outside ourselves and more often that not, the information we learn from seeking help outside ourselves in turn helps us to achieve our goals.

The point I want to make is people do not realize the full potential that each mistake brings.  They want to avoid making mistakes but the irony is that those mistakes are what they NEED.  So do not have a narrow minded view when it comes to mistakes.  See how each mistake actually contributes and moves you forward rather than back and do not be afraid to make them. They are there to help you.  Make no doubt about it.  Making them is a sign you are on the right track.

Quick Marketing Tip: The Odd Thing About Even Numbers

For some reason, even numbers are not as effective as odd numbers in sales letters and advertisements.

Example: "The 6 Energy Stocks You Must Own Now" is somehow less appealing than "The 5 Energy Stocks You Must Own Now" - even though it promises an extra stock recommendation.

And you almost never see a book titled "100 Ways to do X." It is always "101 Ways."

Copywriter Gymi Slezinger has a theory about this,

"Even numbers have balance and closure," says Gymi. "They do not need you. Odd numbers have something hanging. There is urgency in them."

Exception: 10 works well in sales copy (e.g., "10 Tips for Better Technical Writing") because, according to Gymi, it is authoritative.

When to Use Positive Thinking - and When to Ignore

ByMichael Masterson

When my sons were growing up, I dreaded meeting with their teachers. I was always a tiny bit afraid that somewhere in the middle of the conversation the teacher would lean forward, grab my ear, and chastise me. This may be an irrational fear, but it is deeply seeded. It was planted many years ago at St. Agnes elementary school, and it was nurtured in middle school and high school by just about every teacher who had the misfortune of having me in his or her class.

Despite my less-than-stellar early education, I went on to graduate college magna cum laude. I earned a master's degree, and stopped just short of my dissertation for a Ph.D. I have written and published more than a dozen books - including three best-sellers - won awards for writing, and have used the skills I learned in school to help build several multimillion-dollar businesses.

All that said, because of my deeply seeded irrational fear, I had a negative idea of what I could accomplish early in my business career.

But that did not stop me.

In The Power of Positive Thinking, Norman Vincent Peale says that unless you have a positive attitude about yourself and your abilities, "you cannot be successful or happy."

I believe he is half right.

Yes, you need a positive attitude to be happy. But you can be quite successful by most conventional measurements simply by applying the ETR success formula with persistence:

  • Decide exactly what it is you want.
  • Make it a primary goal.
  • Establish a series of yearly, monthly, weekly, and daily objectives to achieve that goal.
  • Resist the urge to give up along the way

My own experience proves that, by doing this, you can achieve almost anything you want in life - even if you do not have much faith in your own abilities. And it has been proven to me dozens of times over by others - people I have known personally, people I have heard about from friends and colleagues, and even people I have read about.

But what if you want happiness? Or what if, in fact, happiness and equanimity are integral to your definition of success? Well, then you need to follow Peale's advice and start thinking positive thoughts about yourself.

Lack of self-confidence, Peale said, "is one of the great problems besetting people today." He makes reference to a survey of college students indicating that for 75 percent of them, confidence was the thing most lacking in their life.

Who could argue with that? If you have ever choked up in an interview, forgotten your lines in a play, blown a free throw, or been verbally stifled by a rude comment, you know too well the effect that a lack of self-confidence has on performance.

"The blows of life, the accumulation of difficulties, the multiplication of problems tend to sap energy and leave you spent and discouraged," Peale says. In such situations, "it is easy to lose track of your abilities and powers" - but by re-appraising your personal assets, you can convince yourself that "you are less defeated than you think you are."

As an example, Peale tells how he counseled a 52-year-old man who came to him "in great despondency." Everything in his life, the man said, had been "swept away" by a recent business setback. "Everything I built up over a lifetime is gone."

Peale recognized that although the man had indeed experienced a serious setback, his chief problem was the way he viewed it. "Suppose we take a piece of paper and write down the values you have left," he suggested. And so they did. Among other things, the list included these personal assets:

  • a wonderful wife - and a 30-year marriage
  • three devoted children
  • admiring friends, happy to help
  • good physical health
  • integrity

That is not a bad list. And, if you are feeling down, I would hope that focusing on positive personal assets like these could help you overcome the worst feelings you could possibly have about yourself.

Let me tell you a story

About 20 years ago, I became friendly with a man, about my own age, who had all of the abovementioned assets - plus a very successful printing business, plus a significant personal fortune. He was a very charismatic guy - always good-natured, upbeat, full of good fun, and easy to like. Then, one day, his business collapsed. I don not remember the details but, suddenly, he was bankrupt.

I heard about it soon after it happened. When I called to console him, it was too late. Sobbing, his wife told me that he had killed himself.

I couldn not understand why he did it. He had had so many other things going for him that, in my eyes, his business and the wealth it produced was just gravy. Apparently, he did notsee it that way.

If my friend had read Peale's advice - and had taken it to heart - he'd be alive today and enjoying all the wonderful things he had, including the love of his wife, children, and friends. He would also, I am quite sure, have made back all the money he lost, plus plenty more.
